Roller Skates and Weighted Vests: A Harmony Quest

Full-blown training block.
Business-building mode: engaged.
Also attempting to keep the wheels on as a mom, daughter, and friend. (Speaking of wheels… roller skating counts as cross-training, right?)

Today was one of those days where the to-do list laughed in my face. My legs felt like bricks thanks to an uphill treadmill grind — part running, part hiking, part torture device (aka weighted vest). My energy was hovering somewhere between “nap sounds great” and “is it bedtime yet?”

And then, my daughter asked if we could go roller skating.

Now, she’s only been once before, and let’s just say the first attempt was more Bambi-on-ice than roller derby champ. But today? She crushed it. She found her balance, her confidence, and that unstoppable little-kid joy that makes you remember what this whole thing is about.

So I laced up. Heavy legs and all.
Because no matter how intense the training, no matter how slammed the schedule… these are the moments I’m training for too.

We skated until we were both sweating and smiling. I even logged it as an extra activity on my Garmin. Because let’s be real — it was a workout. Mentally, emotionally, and physically. And I wouldn’t trade that kind of cross-training for anything.

Ultra running teaches me to show up when I’m tired.
Motherhood teaches me why I keep showing up.

And on the best days? I get to do both on wheels.
